Pozhiyoor is a small Village in Parassala Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram District. It comes under Kulathoor Grama Panchayat. This Place is in the border of Thiruvananthapuram District and Kanniyakumari District. It is near to the Tamil Nadu State Border. 90% of the adult population in Pozhiyoor involve in fishing and related jobs. The socioeconomic background of the population is still lower.
Following the widespread incidence of fever in the area, the local people demanded the Grama Panchayat authorities for better health care facilities. They demanded to augment services in the Primary Health Centre (PHC).
At that time the Grama Panchayat was forced to pump in more money and valuable human resources to expand the facilities of the centre. Elected representatives visited the PHC and assessed the requirements of the Centre to fulfil the needs of the people.
Then they formulated projects for the purchase of medicines and lab materials using plan fund and through Maintenance fund, they formulated projects for the maintenance of PHC.
Performance Grant of Rs. 4.9 lakhs were also used for the maintenance of the PHC in 2016-17. Using Performance Grant, they constructed a waiting area for the out-patients, made cabins for the Pharmacy in the Centre and did flooring and painting.
“Pozhiyoor is a well-populated area and almost all the people in the area and nearby areas depend on this PHC. We are ready to upgrade the facilities of the PHC and provide more health care facilities to the public”, Mrs.Belsy Jayachandran, the Grama Panchayat President pointed out.
Pozhiyoor PHC is one of the in-patient services provided PHCs in the District. The Centre is equipped with 21 beds.
